Acne Causes: Discover These 4 and You Will Eliminate Your Problem

Go ahead, admit it. Acne causes all kinds of grief, it's an intrusion into anyone's life. Its causes are a diverse as acne sufferers themselves. Although it is a common skin disorder, would you believe that there is no cure? On that note the goal of this article is to educate you about acne causes as well as provide solutions.

Understanding and Identifying Your Acne

Acne is caused by an overactive oil glands which trap dirt and bacteria that results in clogging up your pores. The results of these clogged up pores manifest into pimples, blackheads, whiteheads, cysts, lesions and nodules.

Although acne can appear differently there are at least four recognizable acne causes. They are:

1 - Heredity

Due to heredity one is unable to change these characteristics and will have to make challenging adjustments to adapt to their existing condition.

2 - Changes In Ones Hormones

Women can see direct changes and can regulate it successfully with birth control pills. Other methods such as avoiding foods that contain white flour or sugar can positively affect hormone levels in young adults and teenager.

3 - Positive Effects of Diet

Alter your diet by avoiding caffine, processed foods, carbonated beverages, pasta and fatty foods. This might sound strict but you can control your acne causes. Don't forget to drink plenty of fresh water, eat fresh fruits and vegetables. Also by staying away from unprocessed foods, you can positively improve your skin.

4 - Controlling Your Stress

By controlling your stress you will be able to manage the affects of your acne. Stop letting your boss, work, relationships, time commitments or health worries cause you to build up your stress in your life. Instead, try relaxation techniques and exercise to manage your stress. There are some excellent methods such as yoga, exercise, visualization, aromatherapy and hypnotherapy which can positively reduce your stress and outbreaks of acne.

Treatments For Acne

It is best to first try these natural treatments such as maintaining a healthy diet, control and manage stress, getting plenty of bed rest, staying out of the sun and following a strict skin care plan. However if you are not getting results that clear up your acne then perhaps you'll need to try professional help.

Seeking help from a dermatologist is the best recommendation. He or she will be able to prescribe the right medications for your condition. Depending on the treatment, antibiotics and retinoids are the most successful. Treatments such as facials, dermabrasion and laser treatments are effective for minimizing or even reducing acne.

For quick solution for your acne, Accutane is a medication that your doctor can prescribe, although it has potentially life threatening side effects. It is considered a quasi-cure for acne. Although it has great 60% success rate, it does have side effects that include severe depression and birth defects. You will need to consult your doctor to see if this is the right medication for you

Important - Acne Can Change

Acne causes can potentially change over time. For example, a treatment that might work when you are a teenager might not work as you become an adult. Therefore it is important that you continue to search for the right treatment if it no longer becomes effective and your dermatologist can help you.

How Does Acne Develop - What Causes Acne?

Cystic Acne is regarded as a serious and immediate medical needs are attention. There some new forms of acne that develop due to a variety of reasons other than normal causing acne

Acne is a skin disorder. Acne lesions arise through pilosebaceous units, which are made of sebaceous glands and hair follicles in the middle layer of skin called the dermis. Found over most of the body, PSUs consist of a sebaceous gland connected to a canal, called a follicle, that contains a fine hair. The sebaceous glands make an oily substance called sebum that normally empties onto the skin surface through the opening of the follicle, commonly called a pore. Cells called keratinocytes line the follicle. The primary cause of acne is obstruction of pilosebaceous canal, which can take place due to various reasons.

The opening of the blackhead displayed in dark not because of the accumulation of dirt, but due to the accumulation of melanin pigments. Papules are red buttons or injury. Pustules are like papules, but its center is filled with pus. Nodules are deep acne which can take up to 8 weeks to heal. The cysts are not a form of acne, but it is the most serious example of acne, which can reach up to several centimeters in diameter.

The cause of acne is not fully understood. Though poor hygiene, poor diet, and stress can aggravate acne, they clearly do not cause it. Greasy food or poor hygiene, acne is caused by over-production of oil from the sebaceous glands. One important factor is an increase in hormones called androgens (male sex hormones). These increase in both boys and girls during puberty and cause the sebaceous glands to enlarge and make more sebum. Hormonal changes related to pregnancy or starting or stopping birth control pills can also cause acne. Another factor is heredity or genetics. The tendency to develop acne can be inherited from parents.

Certain medications, including lithium and androgens are known to cause acne. Some cosmetics may also provoke spots, especially those that contain oils, fatty acids and waxes. Greasy cosmetics can damage the follicle cells and make them stick together, the production of a plug. Acnes Propionibacteria are many acne on the skin, causing inflammation of the buttons. Bacteria also play a part. During puberty many types of bacteria are normally present on the surface of the skin. When certain bacteria come into contact with excess oil, they enter the ducts of the sebaceous glands where they produce chemicals, which can escape into deeper parts of the skin. In severe acne this can cause big tender spots called nodules.

There can be aggravating factors. Teenage girls often report a flare-up of spots just before menstruation. Stress and certain foods, such as fast food and chocolate, seem to make acne worse. Stress causes your oil glands to overcompensate. The most common things that can aggravate your acne are cleansing your skin too much, squeezing, picking, or popping zits. Excessive cleansing, particularly with the overzealous use of abrasive facial scrubs can irritate your skin, and worsen inflammation. Squeezing and picking acne spots may increase inflammation and can cause further disruption of the acne oil sac.

Acne And Teenage Girls

Over 70% of teens say that acne has affected them in a negative way. An estimated 20 million teens suffer from acne, but even the fact that they're not alone doesn't ease the pain they feel. Teens are embarrassed at a time when they are unsure of themselves. They may become depressed and withdrawn. Acne is especially hard on teenage girls. At a time when they're noticing boys, and visa versa, acne can be devastating. They're surrounded by visions of beauty all around them on TV, in movies, in magazines and on line. We live in a society that worships youth and beauty.

Parents can help their teenage girls through this time by offering a supportive and sympathetic ear. Parents should help the child focus on all their positive attributes, which will help to strengthen the child's self esteem. The parents need to be actively involved with helping their child find the best possible cure for their particular form of acne.

Parents should also educate themselves about acne causes and treatments. Thirty years ago it was thought that acne was caused by eating the wrong foods. Chocolate and potatoe chips were culprit. It's now known that this isn't true. Food is not thought to play a large role in acne. It also has nothing to do with cleanliness of the skin.

What is fact is that acne in teenagers is caused by the action of hormones on the skin's oil glands. During puberty both boys and girls have an increase in the hormones called androgens. These hormones cause sebaceous glands under the surface of the skin to enlarge. The sebaceous glands in response produce excess oil. This excess oil mixes with bacteria and dead skin on the skin's surface and blocks pores. Inside these pores the bacteria multiple and cause inflammation.

Most cases of light to moderate acne can be treated by over the counter medications. There are many to choose from. Some find that benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid works well. Benzoyl peroxide is known to readily kill acne bacteria. Benzoyl peroxide can be found in cleansers and in spot treatments. Benzoyl peroxide is very drying and can make your face look even more irritated, especially when you first start washing with it. Many acne suffers use a moisturizer on their face after washing. There are many moisturizers available that are specifically designed to help with acne such as Cetaphil, Eucerin, and Neutrogena.

Severe acne, or acne that has not responded well to over the counter products, can be successfully treated with the knowledge and expertise of a dermatologist. A dermatologist will consider many things before suggesting treatment. He will perform a thorough evaluation of the patient, considering things such as severity of acne, patient age, lifestyle, and co-existing conditions. The dermatologist then may suggest a combination of two or three different therapies for best treatment.

Whatever one of the literally hundreds of treatments you decide to choose, or if you seek the help of a dermatologist, remember that acne takes time to disappear. Overnight or miraculous results don't happen. It takes six to eight weeks to see results from treatment. Unfortunately, in a teenage girl's life six to eight weeks can feel like a lifetime.

What Causes Acne?

When it comes to the perfect answer for 'what causes acne', experts will just give a plain answer and it goes like – ‘the exact cause of acne is not known’.

Acne is actually the visible end result of hormonal, bacterial and inflammatory disturbances that occur at the level of pilosebaceous follicle or oil pore.

For most people who suffer from acne, it begins at puberty. During this stage, human body starts producing some hormones known as androgens. These help in enlargement and extra stimulation of the sebaceous glands in people prone to acne.

Some women may get acne during their menstrual cycle or pregnancy due to sensitivity to these androgens. The over production of sebum by sebaceous glands tends to mixing the oil with dead skin cells and bacteria on the surface of the skin. This results in blockage of pores.

Bacteria multiplies in these blocked pores and result in inflammation that ultimately leads to the spots and pustules associated with acne. Most people apply harsh materials on their skin to get rid of acne but make it grow worse.

The acne bacteria, biologically known as propionobacterium acnes tend to grow and multiply the retained oil. The sebum acts as a source of nutrition for the bacteria. The bacteria release chemicals inside the pore. The chemicals work towards alerting and alluring white cells from the blood. This leads to inflammation. You can see inflammation on the skin in the form of pimples or zits.

Once these inflamed hair follicles and glands enlarge, the surrounding skin becomes inflamed and also results in larger lumps and cysts known as nodules.

Inflammation of skin can also result in damage of cells that create collagen. When collagen production is reduced, the skin thins and seen as depressed scars.

Here are some common causes of acne:

a) Stress

Excess stress can increase the production of acne enhancing hormones such as cortisol. This aggravates the skin of these having acne.

b) Genes

Acne is often genetic.

c) Medication and Steroids

Certain medication and steroids tend to aggravate acne.

d) Heavy or oily make up

A lot of makeup or oily makeup can clog the pores with harsh chemicals, giving an opportunity to bacterial growth and multiplication.

e) Over abrasive cleansing

Most astringent based facial products can dry out the skin resulting in over production of sebum. Using harsh exfoliation can also damage existing spots and spread infection.

f) Playing hard

Most people try to pick or squeeze blackheads, whiteheads and spots that can result in deeper infection in to the skin, causing scarring.

g) Inflammation

Inflamed skin is characterized by redness, warmth, swelling and discomfort. It occurs due to the immune system of the body that acts to get rid of a foreign element.

h) Rupturing of wall

The walls of the blocked follicle usually rupture. Oil, dead skin cells and bacteria usually found on the surface of the skin and irritate it. This results in small areas of inflammation.

i) Deeper a blockage of pores

Deeper blockage of pores results in a damage path. This way, the oil gets collected in the skin resulting in small flesh colored or white colored bumps. Whiteheads usually result in red colored inflammations known as pimples or zits.

Acne And Rosacea Linked To MRSA Development

MRSA (multi resistant Staphylococcus aureus) is a huge problem in many hospitals leading to numerous deaths and increased hospital stays longer than normal. This has a huge impact on beds let alone peoples safety and confidence in their hospital.

There is growing evidence that the major cause of MRSA is the inappropriate over prescribing of antibiotics by general practitioners. This is not news and it is common knowledge that most infections are viral and do not require antibiotics.
Also it is well known that antibiotics upset gut bacteria and lead to overgrowth of the intestinal tract with fungi such as Candida which is present in everyone's guts, but normally kept in check by the probiotic bacteria surrounding it and which also produce chemicals to keep it in check. Antibiotic use can reduce the probiotic bacteria and allow the fungus to grow which over time can lead to inflammation and misdiagnosis of IBS later in life and open another chapter in prescribing. A downward spiral we don't want to promote. Candida overgrowth and dysbiotic guts probably affect millions of '20 something's' who have just had years of antibiotics for acne, or million of 40 something's who have been put on antibiotics for rosacea. We have clever ways of restoring the normal bacterial balance and reducing Candida without harsh antifungals. Click here for more information.

However the use of antibiotics for skin infections such as acne and rosacea often at low doses and often for 3 to 6 months at a time is probably the biggest cause of MRSA (multi resistant Staphylococcus aureus) in hospitals. Let me explain.
It doesn't matter whether oral or cream antibiotics are used they cause the same problem. In acne if you have many blocked 'pores' (pilo sebaceous ducts) then the anaerobic bacteria propiobacterium acnes (p.acnes) can start to colonise the area under the plug and cause inflammation and damage. This bacterium only survives in normal skin at very low levels as it likes to live in an environment where there is little or no oxygen. When you create a blockage as with acne, you create the environment for p.acnes. So antibiotics can help to reduce p.acnes, but they also hit other friendly skin bacteria and herein lies the problem.

Staphylococcus epidermidis (s.epidermidis) lives on our skin and helps keep other nasty bacteria away. It likes an oxygen rich environment. The same antibiotics that reduce p.acnes often hit the s.epidermidis as well. This attack puts selective pressure on the bacteria to survive and within three or four weeks you can isolate resistant strains s.epidermidis on skin being treated with antibiotics.

Now Staphylococcus epidermidis is related to Staphylococcus aureus (s.aureus) (cousins if you like). S. aureus lives inside the body and s.epidermidis lives on the skin. They meet at places such as the nose and other entrances into the body. They can pass information to each other through the use of things called plasmids and it is highly likely information for developing resistance is transferred.

Hey presto we have started the super bug development. The acne sufferer ends up in hospital for an operation. They get a wound infection either from their own bacteria but also through other bugs already there. S.aureus is a typical bacterium that infects wounds. The antibiotics used for wound infections are often the same or similar to the one that has been used for the patient's acne, and it is not surprising they find the antibiotics don't work as the bugs are already resistant. This resistant strain becomes the dominant resident s.aureus in the hospital and is extremely difficult to remove and can go on to infect many other patients.

Using a product such as Aknicare which has 4 antibacterial agents which control p.acnes by changing conditions in the area under the plug rather than directly destroying it means you can prevent damage and inflammation without breeding resistant bugs. Aknicare can reduce p.acnes and all the other key causes of an acneic skin (inflammation, oil production, cell turnover) all without breeding resistant bugs.

As a final thought the main treatment for rosacea recommended on PRODIGY, the GP prescribing database recommends ROSEX creams and gels. Rosex contains the antibiotic metronidazole. Rosacea patients often use it for months and years. It works in a few. Metronidazole is also a powerful antioxidant and it is these properties that help with rosacea symptoms, not the antibiotic properties. Rosacea is not caused by bacteria. It is a sobering thought that the antibiotic most used in theatre to prevent infections during and shortly after surgery is metronidazole. Imagine if you had been using it for months or years before that operation.

It is concerning to think the antibiotic you are using today could end up leading to someone dieing in hospital in the near future. Change prescribing habits for acne and rosacea now and have an impact on MRSA in hospitals. Use Aknicare a new medical device with a CE mark. Once in the drug tariff this should be prescribed by GPs. Primary Care Trusts should act now.

Types and Causes of Acne

Whiteheads: Whiteheads result when a pore is completely blocked, trapping sebum(oil), bacteria, and dead skin cells, causing a white appearance on the surface. These types of acne lesions sometimes seem to be begging to be popped. Make sure you read about before you attempt this. Whiteheads are normally quicker in life cycle than blackheads. You can view a diagram of a whitehead.

Blackheads: result when a pore is only partially blocked, allowing some of the trapped sebum (oil), bacteria, and dead skin cells to slowly drain to the surface. The black color is not caused by dirt. Rather, it is a reaction of the skin's own pigment, melanin, reacting with the oxygen in the air. A blackhead tends to be a stable structure, and can often take a long time to clear.

Papules: Papules are inflamed, red, tender bumps with no head. Do not squeeze a papule. It will do no good, and may exacerbate scarring.

Pustules: A pustule is similar to a whitehead, but is inflamed, and appears as a red circle with a white or yellow center.

Causes of acne

•Heavy or oily make up
•Over abrasive cleansing
oAstringent facial products can dry the skin out causing the body to create even more sebum to compensate.
oUse of harsh exfoliates can damage existing spots and spread infection .
oPicking or squeezing of blackheads, whiteheads and spots can send the infection deeper into the skin and cause scarring.
•Diet high in nutritious food can also help aggravate acne. The charm and beauty of your contour faces that severe setback at the appearance of acne in your teens . Perhaps it is the most disturbing signal that you receive when you step into those years of your life. acne and pimples are one of the main problems.

Treatment for Acne

Treatment is best depends on which type of acne you have. It may well be worth a visit to dermatologist. They often have samples they could give you to try. People can spend a fortune on over-the-counter medicines when there is maybe one single prescription drug that could solve the problem. Be sure to use oil-free, non-comedogenic lotions or sunscreens. Use something very simple to wash your face with, as well as low-strength benzoyl peroxide. But it would be best to see a doctor to prevent possible acne scarring.

Causes and Cures for Acne

Teens are not the only ones prone to developing breakouts in their lifetime. Bodybuilders and even adults are now finding themselves washing their faces three or four times a day to try ridding themselves of the horrible phenomena known as acne. This article will explain the basics of acne and give you cost-cutting information for those wanting to have clearer skin. You will learn what acne is, how it is formed, and common topicals, cleansers, and supplements used to fight it.
Millions of people suffering from acne want to know one question, "How are these stupid zits formed anyways?" One major cause of acne is an over production of an oil known as sebum. This oil is combined with dead skin cells, causes the oil to be contained within your hair follicles, and causes acne. Another reason you may have acne is that acne problems are genetical. This means that if your parents had acne, then chances are good that you have had or will have acne problems as well. You can take healthy steps to achieving clearer skin by shaving every day, washing your face more often, watching your diet, and using topicals, cleaners, and supplements to help clear your acne.

There are several topicals and cleansers you can purchase without a prescription. Most of the products you use contain ingredients such as benzoyl peroxide, salicylic acid, and sulfer and hydroxy acids, which all help at treating moderate acne. If your acne is more severe, then you may want to schedule an appointment with a dermatologist. You will most likely be prescribed Brevoxyl, Accutane, or Retin-A Micro, but be careful if you are prescribed Accutane. Accutane will clear your acne no matter how severe it is, but all the side effects it brings will make you wonder if the results are even worth it.

If you decide to not waste as much money seeing a dermatologist and want to try clearing your acne on your own, you can purchase many supplements that have positive effects on your skin. Products such as Zinc, Vitamin A,C, and E, ALA, Selenium, Niacin, and fatty acids such as Omega 6 and Omega 3`s combined with the proper topicals and cleansers should leave your skin looking how you want it to look. If these methods don`t help after a couple of weeks, then I highly recommend that you see a dermotologist, no matter what the cost is.

Acne is a severe skin disease that affects millions of people. It can lead to depression, leave you with a low self-esteem, and keep you from doing things you want to do. If you currently have acne, it`s not the end of the world. You need to sit down and think what you are going to do to fight. You need to take one day at a time and not get upset when you`re not seeing the results you want right away. You also shouldn`t pick at them either because picking at them can make the clearing process take longer and can even leave scars when you`re older. Just be patient and let time do its thing. Clearer skin is just around the corner. Until next time, later.

Chocolate and Acne

There is a persistent rumor that sugar and chocolate cause acne and acne flareups. This may be true occasionally but mostly it is just that, a myth. There are many researchers that are looking at the link between chocolate and sugar and acne.

Maybe it is because it tastes so good, nut chocolate and sugar are always blamed for acne and have been for years. Other foods that are blamed include almost every junk food as well as alcohol and smoking. No foods have been proven to cause acne. But as we have seen many people have a really good diet and still get acne, doesn't seem fair does it?

Overactive oil glands, non clean oily skin, heredity, and hormonal changes are what cause acne. Androgen production is at its highest during the teenage years, which stimulates sebaceous glands to enlarge and make more sebum. Outbreaks of pimples and blackheads can become a traumatic event for young boys and girls.

If however, upon eating something there is an outbreak of zits the next day, it is advisable to stay away from that food for a while. Much research suggests that foods do not cause acne, but it has not been proven as fact. If on eating the same food again after a few days the result is an outbreak, the chances are it is an allergic reaction rather than an outbreak of acne.

In recent studies, scientists have demonstrated the possibility of regulating hormones as a significant reduction element of acne, although this could have negative side effects.

Teenagers are not the only ones with acne. Women who are pregnant or in their 40s can have outbreaks, but by the time a person is 50 it usually has run its course. During the teenage years, boys are more susceptible to stronger breakouts than girls, but when they reach around 40, the women take the lead in numbers of flare-ups.

Chocolate has been blamed for many ailments including acne, tooth decay, obesity, and lacking of food value. It has also been known to have an anti-depressant effect, cause hypertension and even have an aphrodisiac effect.

We know that sugar is basically harmless with your acne problems unless, like everything else, it is over-consumed. Chocolate and sugar has been found not to cause nor aggravate outbreaks of acne. These results are backed up by further research that shows acne in no way is affected by chocolate.

Acne Treatment: The Acne Fact Sheet

Blemishes. Zits. Pimples. Bumps.

No matter what you call it, nearly everyone has had to deal with acne breakouts at least one time in their life. For some women, dealing with acne is a daily struggle; however, even if you only have to deal with the occasional eruption, acne can be a painful experience.

Many different factors are considered by researchers to be the cause of acne, but a specific cause is still unknown. Factors such as increased hormones, heredity and even the use of some medications have all been attributed to triggering breakouts. In the case of women, it is often the changing levels of hormones in the 2 to 7 days prior to the beginning of a menstrual period that will trigger or worsen an acne flare-up. This combined with skin irritation (caused by rubbing, squeezing or picking at blemishes), pressure from tight clothing (in the case of body acne), pollution, and hard scrubbing can cause acne to worsen.

While dermatologists generally treat moderate to severe cases of acne, it is possible to treat a mild acne flare-up at home. Over the counter treatments that contain such compounds as benzoyl peroxide, resorcinol, salicylic acid and sulfur are often used to treat acne, but each works a little differently. When using over the counter acne treatments, always be aware of possible side effects such as skin irritation, burning or redness, which may lessen with continued use of the product. If symptoms persist or worsen, consult your dermatologist. You may need to consult a dermatologist to see which treatment type is best for your skin type, acne type and cycle of breakouts. Your doctor may also recommend a prescription medication to help control breakouts. This group of treatments include antibiotics, benzoyl peroxide, tretinoin, adapalene and azelaic acid. With all treatments, either over the counter or prescription, products may have to be used for 8 weeks or more before results are visible.

For women, a dermatologist may be able to determine whether acne is related to environment (factors such as pollution and skin irritation) or normal hormonal fluctuation. Medications such as low-dose birth control pills, corticosteroid drugs, and antiandrogen drugs may help control hormone-related acne flare-ups. The use of these types of drugs must be considered carefully, as side effects may vary greatly from person to person and sometimes include irregular menstruation, tender breasts, headache and fatigue.

The first step in any acne treatment should be prevention. By adopting a daily cleansing routine, acne breakouts can be greatly reduced. All skin types can follow these simple steps to help stop acne before it starts:

Clean Skin Gently. Using a mild cleanser twice a day and after strenuous exercise to gently clean the skin can help to reduce the chance of an acne flare-up. Using strong detergents or rough scrubbing pads may seem like the correct way to get a thorough cleaning, but these types of cleansers may actually worsen a breakout. Clean the face from under the jaw line to the hairline; use astringent only if the skin is excessively oily, and only on oily patches.

Avoid Touching the Skin. Squeezing or picking at acne blemishes raises the risk of developing scars or skin discoloration.

Avoid Excessive Sun Exposure. Women have long believed that allowing acne to “get some sun” can help in the healing process by drying out excess oil near the lesion. These benefits are only temporary, and medications to help with acne breakouts often react badly to sun exposure, making the skin more likely to burn.

Choose Cosmetics Wisely. Cosmetics that are noncomedogenic may help in preventing acne flare-ups, and all cosmetic products (including moisturizers, eye shadows and blushes) should be oil-free to help stop acne before it starts.

Treating acne breakouts can range from quick fixes to long-term regimens for skin care set by a dermatologist. With good skin care, acne can be controlled or prevented. Finding the right acne treatment may take time, as women have varying skin types and sensitivities; but with proper skin care and proper treatment of acne, every woman can have beautiful, glowing skin.

Serious Skin Care For Acne Prone Skin

When it comes to acne, a lot of information is available from different sources. Old wives' tales, random experiments, and even misguided practices that promise instant cures for acne are followed by many in the hopes of being pimple-free. Unfortunately, some, if not all, of these are without scientific basis and can even make acne worse. Serious skin care for acne-prone skin starts with the right and proper information.

On causes of acne:

There are a lot of myths concerning the causes and treatment for acne. Below are just some of the most popular and widely practiced acne myths:

* Stress

Stress does not cause acne but it can make acne worse. Scientific studies show that stress can affect a person's hormonal cycle which can make the existing acne condition worse. Also, some psychiatric medicines taken to reduce stress can acne as a side effect.

* Masturbation or sex

Sex or masturbation does not cause acne. Studies done to relate sex or masturbation to acne are inconclusive with no additional evidence. An old wives' tale, this acne myth became popular during the early 17th century to discourage women from engaging in pre-marital sex or other scandalous behavior. Some misleading adults even use the fear of having acne to discourage adolescents of today from engaging in sex at an early age.

* Chocolates and oily food

Although eating too much of sweets and oily food is never good for anybody, the relationship between acne and this food group is largely indirect. Hormonal changes, which is the most common cause of acne, may cause a person to alternately crave sweet and salty food like chocolates and chips. Since this craving often coincides with acne flare ups, this food group has been misleadingly labeled as a cause of acne.

On cures for acne

If myths on the probable causes of acne are abundant, there are also many so-called cures that promise instant freedom from acne. These are:

* Frequent face washing

Since excess oil and dirt are among the causes of acne, some people have this misguided notion that frequently washing one's face can prevent and treat acne. However, this is not the case. Doing so only worsens acne since the skin is stripped off protective lipids which can make it sensitive, dry, and prone to irritations.

* Toothpaste

Toothpaste has antiseptic properties which can cause a pimple to dry out. However, while applying toothpaste to acne may be effective to some, it can cause greater damage to others especially if applied for over time. Toothpaste can dry out surrounding areas and “burn” pimple spots which can lead to discolorations.

* Sun exposure

Probably one of the most idiotic acne myth to surface, some people swear by this. However, sun exposure can only lead to one thing: skin damage. Tans and darker skin tones only hide or camouflage acne but a closer look and touch will reveal bumps and zits. This can make the acne situation worse since sun exposure can make one's skin dry, flaky, discolored, and extra-sensitive.

Eating a balanced diet, exercising, getting enough rest, and following a skin care regimen specific to one's skin type are essential for serious skin care of acne-prone skin. Medications and treatments prescribed by a dermatologist can also help greatly.

What Causes Acne And How To Get Rid Of It Permanently

Acne occurs when a certain bacteria in the skin called the propioibacterium acnes grows excessively. However, what is it that causes this bacteria to grow too much. The answer appears to vary from person to person. For some people simply switching to an effective topical acne treatment and skin cleansing system works. For others a change in diet may be required to keep the growth of this bacteria under control.

Another potential cause of acne could be from rising hormone levels known as androgens that increase during puberty in both males and females. This may be the reason why so many teenagers suffer from acne during puberty and then many report the acne going away once they get older. There can also be several other factors that can trigger your acne to get worse.

Many girls and women use cosmetics excessively that can clog the pores and make acne worse. There are also many drugs that can have side effects that can also make your acne condition worse. Also make sure to not rub your face or pick your existing acne as this can introduce dirt and particles that can clog your pores. When you are washing your face be sure to be gentle and not rub hard against your skin as this can cause further irritation.

It may be best to use a cleanser that is gentle and has predominantly natural ingredients. Avoid harsh chemicals that can cause skin dryness and irritation. Also search for cleansers that have gentle abrasives that will help to remove dead skin cells from the surface of your skin. Using a gentle toner of some sort can also be a good idea especially if you have oily skin as this will help to remove further dirt and oil.

There are many creams and lotions you can buy that have acne fighting chemicals in them like benzoyl peroxide or salycilic acid. If you choose to try these kinds of products then select something that is gentle on the skin and has low concentrations of these chemicals. There are also many natural and home made cleansers you can use that can often be very effective. In addition consider visiting a local health food store and ask for natural cleansers as these kinds of stores tend to carry the most gentle products.

Long term stress can also make your acne worse so it is important to learn how to manage stress. Regular exercise can be a great way to reduce stress. There are basically two kinds of exercise and that is aerobics and strength training. Aerobics is important to introduce more oxygen into the body and it has many health benefits including the possibility of reducing acne. Strength training is great for building and maintaining muscle mass which is important for many health purposes also.

Make exercise a regular part of your life as it offers many significant health benefits.
Also you could get regular exercise by taking up a sport like golf, tennis or basketball. If possible consider buying a good piece of fitness equipment as this will allow you to exercise from the convenience of your home. Joining a local gym can also offer many benefits since you will have access to a much wider range of equipment which can help to prevent boredom.

Deep breathing exercises can also be effective at stress reduction. Simply take a slow deep breath in and then slowly out. You may even want to pause for a few seconds between the inhalation and exhalation. Make sure that you feel comfortable with each breath and do not strain yourself in any way. Keep an open mind and try new things in order to help you get rid of acne permanently.

I Would Like To Get Rid Of My Acne - Am I Dreaming?

Acne, what a grim word for many of us. You have probably had a few attacks of acne if you are like most of us. Any adolescent can tell you that the anguish that goes with these vicious little bumps, is detrimental to one's confidence. Fortunately we now have many solutions to this old-as-time difficulty.

You have possibly toyed with one or many over the counter, drugstore products if you are one of the 80% of human beings affected by acne. A lot of these treatments also cause dryness, redness, or itching while fighting the break-outs to a small extent. Then you're stuck with other problems. The key is to find out what products are right for you and your skin type.

Many acne fighting treatments offered these days are made of active ingredients such as, salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide. Both of which are proven to fight acne. Prior to purchasing a product, you should consider whether you are looking for a drying agent or an exfoliant. A lot of current acne creams contain benzoyl peroxide, which is a drying agent. The goal is to dry up the oil-ridden skin, therefore vanquishing the pimples. Salicylic acid, on the other hand, is an exfoliant. Exfoliants are designed to slough dead skin cells from the face or body, in order to unclog pores, hence relieving breakout. This active ingredient is available in many cleansers, toners, and pads.

It's always good to visit a dermatologist prior to treatment, no matter what type of acne you're afflicted with. If you want to, your skin specialist can also prescribe a medication, which could be better than an over-the-counter solution. Oral treatments are available in addition to topical creams and gels.

Proactive Solution, which is offered online or maybe at your local shopping mall, is a popular acne product on the market today. Many devout users of this product swear by its effectiveness. If you watch television, you surely know what I'm talking about. You just need to do an online search if you are curious about this and virtually any other acne treatment, and you will find a lot of solutions to those horrible, little bumps.

Whether you're afflicted with teenage blackheads and whiteheads, or merely some bothersome mild acne as an adult, you can certainly find a solution to your skin problems. While acne affects most of us at one point or another in our hectic lives, whether it's brought on by hormones or stress, we don't have to just take it. Acne can be a horrible shot to anyone's self-esteem and should be dealt with before getting too severe. In the wonderful world of technology we all share, there's no reason why you shouldn't take advantage of its innovations. You can cure acne.

Free and Cheap Ways to Get Rid of Acne

The very word "acne" conjures in many people's minds either past or present struggles with self image, embarrassment and feelings of helplessness if they've ever suffered this skin condition, or are currently suffering varying degrees of acne.

Our skin's appearance is very important to us personally of course, but it seems to have been only made more important by the emphasis of "flawless skin" in beauty magazines, tabloids and other media outlets that our society has become so enthralled with. It's no wonder that the skincare industry has enjoyed growth and profits in leaps and bounds over the past fifteen to twenty years.

So, what can you do, besides enlist the help of an expensive dermatologist or skin care spa to help combat acne and prevent new breakouts on your own, for next to nothing - or better yet, free? Well, we will focus on things you can change in your diet to get rid of or dramatically reduce acne breakouts, since what we put in our mouths is more key for the skin's appearance and health than most people may think.

There are many schools of thought on what to avoid and what to include in the diet if you are to attain and maintain clear skin. However, one thing remains pretty clear, and that is the avoidance of sugary foods and caffeine. I cannot tell you how many times I have experienced major breakouts that I can directly attribute to the consumption of sugar or caffeine in excess.

Sure, it's ok to have a sweet snack (a small one!) here and there, and not suffer the consequences of a few new pimples, but by and large it is prudent to either strictly limit sugar or try to eradicate it all together if you have problem skin.

Sugar has many destructive properties that are bad for overall health, but it's recently also been proven to have properties that accelerate the aging process of the skin when chemically broken down by our bodies, and also to lend a hand in the inflammation of skin cells.

Inflammation is a direct cause of acne, since it is, by definition an inflammatory skin condition, so we can safely say that sugar is indeed a category of food to be avoided in the quest to be acne free, oh and also to keep your skin young too!

OK, enough about sugar, now let's move onto to another culprit behind acne. Caffeine can have similar effects on the skin to sugar, since it actually may increase inflammation, especially in some people who are more caffeine-sensitive than others (like myself).

With all the super caffeinated beverages out on the market today, it's no wonder we're all not walking around with broken out faces. I suspect that teens especially are susceptible to the caffeinated drink rage, which is unfortunate because they may be unknowingly aggravating their skin and causing breakouts at the age where they are more apt to break out anyway.

Caffeine can also produce an uneven and "bumpy" texture of the skin. Beverages aren't the only culprit either, since there are many supplements, pills and diet aids that contain stimulants that will break your skin out faster than you can say "energy". Caffeinated drinks and other products containing stimulants should be avoided if you want to avoid rough, broken out skin.

If you want to try to neutralize inflammation caused by eating foods that increase skin volatility as mentioned above, a good suggestion is to start drinking lemon water.

Not only is drinking lemon juice infused water a refreshing difference from plain old water, but water with about an eighth of a lemon (preferably organic) squeezed into it can help neutralize acidity in the body caused by acid-producing foods, which in turn limits inflammation.

Seriously, begin to drink lemon juice infused water for a few days and I'd be surprised if you don't see at least a little difference in the way your skin looks.

If you want to get really adventurous, add a sprinkle or two of cinnamon, again prefereably organic, to your water, and you may also enjoy a bit of a revved up metabolism as well as a more stabilized blood sugar level, as research is showing cinnamon has excellent benefits for blood sugar stabilization. Why do I mention blood sugar? Well, because a stable blood sugar level helps to lower inflammation, and it also helps reduce the effects of stress and anxiety which can trigger higher levels of androgens in the body, which are the very hormones that cause acne.

And there you have it, free or very cheap, easily incorporated, and dare I say "pleasant" ways to combat acne. Not only do these suggestions help reduce breakouts, they are also generally beneficial to your health in other numerous ways. Who says everyone needs a dermatologist or expensive skin care regimens to achieve pristine skin?

Back Acne Facts and How to Prevent Back Acne

Back acne, sometimes called "bacne". The term bacne refers to acne that occurs on the back. Bacne occurs on the back in the form of blackheads, pimples and spots and these can reach the advanced stage in the form of cysts. Nearly all of us have had to deal with acne at some point in our lives. This embarrassing skin problem usually affects the face or quite possibly the neck or down the chest. However some people also develop acne breakouts on their back, usually in the form of pimples, blackheads or other forms of acne similar to what develops on other areas of the body. Back acne can be very severe, often times more acute than on the face. Since there are thousands of pores on the back, there are a lot more places where acne can surface. Since back acne, commonly referred to as "bacne" can often times be cystic and leave scars, a topical treatment alone may not work as well as it does on the face

Causes

According to this article on the Acne Resource Center, back acne tends to occur around puberty when the sebaceous glands, which produce sebum, start functioning. When too much sebum is produced, pores and hair follicles can become clogged, attracting bacteria. This can lead to acne.

Back Acne Treatment

Since the skin is tougher, body acne will need to be treated differently than acne on the face and neck. However, acne treatment is still possible.

* Wear natural fibers, or fabrics specifically engineered to wick moisture away from the skin. This is especially important if youre working out.
* Stop carrying a backpack until the acne clears. Carry a bag with your hands instead.
* Shower as soon as possible after perspiring
*Since bacteria can exacerbate the condition, always wear clean clothes, bras and T-shirts when working out and put a clean towel down before lying on exercise machines or mats at the gym.

There is no single treatment that works for all people so you may have to try a few treatments before finding the one that works for you. Furthermore, even when a treatment is working, your skin may look worse for a while before it looks better. This means that you will need to continue your daily treatments even when the treatment appears not to be working to find out whether after four or six weeks you begin to see results.

Possible causes of Acne and Acne Remedies

What really causes Acne? there are so many theories going round about the causes of Acne and possible solutions that many people think they are remedies for treating Acne. Acne occurs mostly in adolescence where most people are in their social age, a very sensitive level in ones life. For that reason the best explanation is that Acne develops as a result of blockages in follicles. This may be as a result of overreaction of hormones, water retention in the body and toxins in the blood and lymph.

The worrying thing is that when someone discovers that he/she is developing Acne, there is a lot of worries such that next thing he/she thinks of is to go looking for chemicalized creams for acne in the market worsening the situation even without consulting a doctor. Do not despair when you discover that you are suffering from Acne. There is a solution for this.

There are many explanations that justify the Causes of Acne. Several hormones have been linked to acne like the androgens testosterone, as well as insulin just to name a few. Development of acne vulgaris in later years is uncommon, although this is the age group for Rosacea which may have similar appearances. True acne vulgaris in adults may be a as a result of features like pregnancy and disorders such as polycystic ovary syndrome or the rare Cushing's syndrome. Menopause-associated acne occurs as production of the natural anti-acne ovarian hormone estradiol fails at menopause. The lack of estradiol also causes thinning hair, hot flashes, thin skin, wrinkles, vaginal dryness, and predisposes to osteopenia and osteoporosis as well as triggering acne.

Many people think that Acne is caused by dirt but this is just a misconception. The blackheads are simply oxidized keratin that occur deep within the narrow follicle channel making it so impossible to clean them away. The cells lining the duct fail and this explains why the flow flow of keratin is blocked and this causes acne. So do not get down on to yourself thinking that your fellow friends think you are dirty! If you asked me I would commend you because you must be the most clean person in the world for you work day and night cleaning up just to kick acne out of your body. But not to worry because Acne is curable.
